What We Believe

What We Believe

At the most basic level, we believe we are connected to all the people of the world who live in charity, respect and love for one another. Jesus taught us that the two great commandments are to love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves.  We express this in our worship, fellowship and service.
Our worship derives from the earliest rites of the Christian Church. We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, which itself is part of The Episcopal Church (which comprises provinces in the United States and 14 other countries). The Episcopal Church is a constituent of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
As a church in the Anglican Communion, we value Scripture, Reason, and Tradition – what is called the “three-legged stool” - in our collective and individual worship. The Episcopal Church adds a fourth leg: “experience,” to amplify or clarify how Scripture, Tradition and Reason may illuminate God’s love in our current context.
We believe that reading the Bible is essential to learning, and that reading the Bible requires us to use our intellect and experience to interpret God’s word for our daily life. We encourage an active engagement with the Bible.
We welcome all who seek a closer relationship with Jesus and with God. Everyone who comes to worship is embraced as a child of God. Those who cannot join us in worship are included in our prayers and in home visits.
